Cork Flooring

If you are looking for a renewable flooring option that comes from a sustainable source maybe its time to consider Cork.  Thats right the bark of the cork tree is harvested from a living tree every nine years and the tree is not harmed in the process!  Some brands of Cork floors contain cork from rececyled wine corks.

Cork is sound absorbent, it absorbs impacts, and has a high resistance to wear.  Cork's resilience gives users a floor that is comfortable to walk on causing less stress to the back and feet. Users can have a floor that is comfortable to walk on causing less stress to the back and feet.

Cork can be installed over standard plywood and concrete sub-floors. Damp mopping with a mild detergent is all that is necessary to maintain a cork floor.  Cork does not stain easily or require  scrubbing or cleaning with harsh chemicals.
Like hardwood, periodic reapplication of finish is recommended. Cork can be installed over standard plywood and concrete sub-floors. I am all for the use of cork flooring materialfor flooring projects. The material is so sound absorbent, resilient and great looking that I'm surprised it isn't recommended for use in housing projects more often or in combination with other flooring materials. Thanks for the wonderful article. Cheers...
